What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Education College and Career Navigator position at COPIAH LINCOLN COMMUNITY COLLEGE?
SUMMARY:
The College and Career Navigator reports to the Director of Adult Education and serves as the liaison between services provided by AE and post-secondary options available through college academics and training and/or community organizations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruit students for the AE and MIBEST programs, including development of recruitment, marketing and outreach materials.
2. Establish positive and trusting relationships with students.
3. Coordinate and manage student registration, orientation, assessments, and placement.
4. Connect students with academic advising, including setting career and academic goals.
5. Develop an educational plan to identify student assets, barriers, and support services needed to address challenges.
6. Coordinate and/or provide supportive services that lead to academic persistence and success using internal college and external community resources.
7. Connect interested students to the college admission processes.
8. Identify and assist students with potential sources of financial support, including financial aid.
9. Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress and meet with students regularly regarding these program requirements.
10. Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and effective use of resources.
11. Collaborate with regional workforce development systems, local businesses, and other community organizations to facilitate employment search, internship, and/or job placement opportunities for students.
12. Collect, input, manage, and update student data in the Literacy, Adult and Community Education System (LACES) in an accurate and timely manner.
13. Review and utilize program data on retention, progression, and completion to support continuous program improvement.
14. Attend all required state AE or related conferences, trainings, and meetings.
15. Maintain regular communication with college Career and Technical Education/Workforce Education faculty regarding student performance and provide supportive services for student success by connecting with external community resources.
16. Assist with organizing AE and MIBEST Week activities.
17. Maintain complete and accurate student and program files.
18. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, social work, education, or related field.
Experience in working with non-traditional students and/or at-risk populations (e.g. adult basic education, academically under-prepared high school graduates, foster youth, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, youth and young adults, etc.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree
- Experience with non-traditional students and/or at-risk populations (adult basic education/GED, academically under-prepared high school graduates)
- Experience in counseling at the collegiate level
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong knowledge of financial aid processes
- Strong interpersonal skills
- An attitude of optimism/able to inspire confidence
ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:
- The work environment is an office setting with moderate noise.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
