What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strategic Planner position at Copeland?
Copeland, a new standalone company with 100 years in the HVACR industry, is looking for a Strategic Planner to join its Corporate Strategic Planning team based in St. Louis, MO. As a Strategic Planner, you will work closely with Copeland’s executive team to develop and execute the business strategy, build tools to communicate various strategies throughout the organization, drive competitive intelligence capabilities and work on special projects that drive incremental growth for the business and support the Enterprise strategy. You will work with business leaders from across the organization to define strategic plans, gain business and market insights, and drive understanding for strategies throughout the organization. A core capability of this role and function is to develop, articulate, and build C-suite and board level presentations on the business’ strategic initiatives. This includes creating content for key presentations such as Copeland Board Meetings, Monthly Executive Sessions, Investor Meetings, and any other internal and external presentation for Copeland’s Executives. In addition, the Strategic planner will lead efforts to track key market trends, peer and competitive information and support customer analysis and events. Special projects could include: working with business units on key strategic priorities, developing predictive growth models tailored to our specific markets, deep-dive analyses on business economic drivers, or any other projects to support incremental growth opportunities for the business.
As a Strategic Planner, you will:
- Work on a variety of projects ranging from short-term independent analyses to cross-function, cross-business unit large scale programs and deep dives.
- Undertake strategic and tactical modeling and scenario planning that help drive decision making for the enterprise, business, and functional strategies.
- Develop customized and persuasive strategic presentations for executive team
- Assess and communicate world economic environments and analyze strategic positions of peers and competitors – including developing company profiles and deep dives into top peers and competitors
- Lead and maintain the broad landscaping and prioritization of market/segments
- Identify and track macro trends
- Carry out or conduct market, channel, technology and regulatory research
- Develop business cases, working with the relevant functions e.g. Finance or consultants
- Work with the business unit strategic planning teams by partnering on major programs and executive presentations
- Select and deploy software/tools that support all strategic planning efforts globally including competitive insights, economic indicators, etc
- Lead cross-functional teams to execute special projects
- Implement strategic planning processes that highlight business unit strategies with clearly communicated critical assumptions

Required Education, Experience & Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, tact and diplomacy
- Undergraduate degree with 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in a related business or industry
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and data management skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to think critically in solving complex issues
- Ability to craft narratives based on data to connect with executive-level audience
Preferred Education, Experience & Skills:
- MBA with 4-6 years of work experience, preferably in a related business or industry
- Experience working in Consulting, Finance, or Marketing
- Previous sales and strategic account management experience
