We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to our members, sharing personal experiences to inspire hope and resilience.
- Utilize motivational techniques to encourage members to set and achieve personal goals.
- Assist members in developing coping strategies and life skills necessary for maintaining wellness.
- Facilitate sessions focused on peer support, education, and skill-building.
- Implement crisis management and intervention strategies when necessary to ensure member safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, mental health counselors, and specialists, to coordinate care.
- Maintain accurate documentation of member interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies.
- Advocate for members across various systems, including healthcare, housing, and employment services.
- Support members with daily tasks like shopping, scheduling appointments, and participating in extracurricular activities.
Requirements
- Must have a NY Certified Peer Specialist or NY Certified Recovery Peer Advocate certification to interview.
- Must have lived experience dealing with personal behavioral health or mental health challenges.
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Knowledge of mental health counseling practices and social work principles is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while maintaining member confidentiality.
- A genuine passion for helping others achieve their goals.
- Ability to navigate technology confidently, using a tablet or desktop computer to join team meetings, record session notes, and support members with virtual appointments.
