What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Steel Cutter position at Cooper Machine Company, Inc.?
Cooper Machine is looking for a Sawyer to cut steel that is used to manufacture Sawmill Equipment. Cooper Machine is a family business that has been in the business of designing and manufacturing sawmill equipment for over 60 years and has remained at the forefront of sawmill innovations and design.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for setting up and operating band saws
- Responsible for cleaning coolant off sawn parts
- Responsible for basic saw maintenance and cleaning
- Able to operate required machinery in the area (forklifts/crane)
- Must be able to read blueprints
- Understands proper quality saw standards
- All other duties as assigned
- Self-directed, requiring little or no supervision
- Maintain a “customer first” mindset for productivity and quality
- Keeps an efficient work area
- Meets agreed upon manufacturing goals in a timely manner
- Arrive at work on time and as scheduled
Minimum Qualifications
- Sawyer experience preferred, but not necessary
- Knowledge of different types of steel is essential
- Strong mathematical skills are important
- Able to read a tape measure, pressure gauge, level and square
- Attention to detail
- Ability and willingness to follow directions
- Self-management is necessary because you will be working independently most of the work day
Working Conditions
- Works in a Saw Shop
- This is a physically strenuous position and requirements may include pushing, kneeling and lifting heavy items (50 lbs)
- Part of the position will be outdoors collecting and organizing steel and the remainder will be in a building that is not climate controlled.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
