SUMMARY
To support our continued growth, CoolSys Energy Design - Consulting Engineers (CED) is seeking a full-time Surveyor / Engineering Designer to join our San Antonio team! This hybrid role requires regular travel across the United States to perform MEPR field surveys and site evaluations, while providing in-office engineering design support when not traveling. Our ideal candidate is organized, motivated, and technically strong, with the ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in the office
Responsibilities:
Field Surveying & MEPR Site Evaluations (Regular Travel Required)
- Perform onsite mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and fire protection (MEPR) field surveys, evaluations, and as-built data collection.
- Travel frequently—including multi-day, out-of-state trips—to gather comprehensive field information at client stores, facilities, and project sites.
- Document existing building conditions, equipment data, measurements, photos, and system layouts.
- Identify deficiencies and field issues; communicate findings clearly to internal engineering teams.
- Follow all company and client safety procedures while working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active facilities.
Engineering Design & Office Responsibilities (When Not Traveling)
- Support engineering teams by preparing drawings, plans, and construction documents for MEPR systems.
- Assist in performing load calculations, equipment selection, code research, and design analysis.
- Translate field-gathered data into accurate as-built documentation and basis-of-design inputs.
- Participate in internal design reviews, QA/QC processes, and documentation updates.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
- Support project workflows through consistent communication and adherence to engineering best practices.
- AS or BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- 1–5 years of experience in engineering, surveying, site evaluations, construction, or MEPR-related disciplines.
- Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, or fire protection systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit (Revit strongly preferred).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in the office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly, including overnight trips.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
- Team player with sound business ethics and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors to develop a full understanding of building energy systems and their operation.
