ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Values.
  2. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  3. Supports students, parents and school staff by assisting in the remediation of social, behavioral, and emotional concerns which impair the student’s educational progress.
  4. Provide assistance to teachers, support teams, administrators and parents to resolve issues related to appropriate programming for students with behavioral challenges.
  5. Develops safe and successful positive behavior plans designed to reduce the number of disruptive behaviors in the classroom.
  6. Collects data through observations for developing or revising behavioral intervention plans of students, completes required reports as necessary.
  7. Assists in implementing modifications and adaptations of environments as needed.
  8. Works with staff to facilitate positive behavior supports for students with behavioral challenges, providing positive individual and classroom intervention strategies.
  9. Assists in transition planning to facilitate smooth and successful transitions for students.
  10. Assists in the development and implementation of behavior intervention techniques consistent with goals and treatment plans.
  11. Facilitates therapeutic groups for students with behavioral challenges.
  12. Provides support to students individually when necessary.
  13. Provides short term crisis intervention for all students on campus when needed.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, Masters degree preferred in Counseling with licensure by American Board of Behavioral Health Examiners OR in Education with state teaching certificate in Special Education.
  2. Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  3. Valid IVP Fingerprint clearance card 
  4. No convictions for felonies or crimes against children
  5. Must hold valid Arizona Teacher Certification
  6. Ability to work effectively with administrators, community members and other agency representatives
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in computer software programs including all Microsoft applications

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

BASIC SKILLS:

  1. Ability and competence to maintain positive rapport and composure with parents, students, staff, and the general public.
  2. Ability and competence to operate general office equipment and job-related software.
  3. Ability and competence to work within specific time frames and be detail oriented.
  4. Ability and competence to both lead and serve as a team member.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel.

 

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

 HUSD participates in the Arizona State Retirement System; Defined Benefit Plan provides for lifelong monthly retirement income for qualified members.

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-Time Position - 10 months Monday - Friday 

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Salary Schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.
