What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Engineer position at Cooley Group?
Responsible for providing technical experience in troubleshooting extrusion equipment and process issues with focus on material, tooling and customer products. Must be able to communicate with all levels of the production team.
Responsibilities:

Adhere to all safety policies and participate in fostering a safe work environment

Develop and optimize processes through machine, tooling, and/or equipment modifications

Provide technical experience in troubleshooting extrusion and compounding equipment and/or process issues
-
Standardize process, document operating instructions, implement and train workforce to the process
-
Improve efficiencies and reduce scrap cost through lean manufacturing, six sigma, and continuous improvement/corrective action programs
-
Ensure BOM accuracy; maintain, update, and make improvements to process profiles/SOP’s/Specifications.

Implement quality and productivity improvements to the extrusion production lines and converters.

Development guide to support shop floor troubleshooting.

Establish and track operational productivity metrics.

Participate in new business development projects and be the site lead for all initial product launches and new raw material trials. This is to include, but not limited to, process development and documentation.

Lead, participate and deploy in Industry 4.0 initiatives

Adhere to all practices, policies, and procedures according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements

Assist with related activities and responsibilities appropriate to the role.
Qualifications:
-
BS or BA degree (Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Plastics Engineering preferred) and/or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a process manufacturing role

Background within a Lean Manufacturing environment and experience as a leader in Continuous Improvement Programs
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Prior experience in Plastics Extrusion
-
Prior experience in PVC Compounding is a plus
-
Prior experience with Industry 4.0
-
Demonstrated experience supporting smart manufacturing initiatives within plastics extrusion or continuous processing environments.

Hands-on expertise with Ignition SCADA for real-time process monitoring, data acquisition, dashboard development, and integration with extrusion equipment.

Proven ability to collect, clean, and analyze IIoT data streams for optimization of temperature profiles, screw speeds, melt pressures, resin blends, and downstream equipment performance.

Experience developing or applying predictive modeling and machine learning approaches (e.g., regression models, anomaly detection, predictive quality, or predictive maintenance) to improve throughput, reduce scrap, and optimize line stability.
