Creator Accountant

Reports to: Accounting Manager

About Cookie Finance

Cookie Finance is a rapidly growing accounting and tax technology startup for content creators. We work exclusively with creators and influencers on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, and TikTok, supporting creators in all aspects of their business. We're looking for a Creator Accountant to join our Client Services team and help thousands of creators run their finances like the business owners they are.

About the Role

The Creator Accountant is the face of Cookie for our clients. Behind every creator is a full team of bookkeepers, tax professionals, and payroll specialists doing the detailed work. You are the one person the client knows, trusts, and calls first, and the one who makes sure they get what they need from all of those teams.

This is a role where the relationship is as important as the numbers. Our clients are talented and busy, and many have never run a business before. You'll guide them, teach them, and hold them to the standards that good financial management requires. That means explaining things clearly, having honest conversations when something is off, setting expectations and sticking to them, and making sure clients do their part as reliably as we do ours.

Internally, you are the client's advocate. You'll review monthly bookkeeping and P&Ls before they reach the client, bring questions and requests to the right specialists, and push back when something is late or doesn't meet the standard we've promised.

Who This Role Is Perfect For

You're a confident communicator who also has a solid accounting foundation. You're comfortable being the person who says "we need this by Friday" and "here's why this matters," and you can do it warmly and without apology. You love teaching and empowering your clients. You're organized, proactive, and energized by helping creators become confident business owners.

This Role Is Not For You If

You prefer to work behind the scenes, avoid conflict, or see clients as a source of interruptions rather than partners. Success here depends on being direct, setting boundaries, and following through, but it also depends on building real relationships with your creators. The best people in this role empower clients to understand their own businesses, educate them on why good financial habits matter, and earn their trust by being honest and consistent, even when the conversation is hard.

What You'll Own

  • Be the primary point of contact for your portfolio of creators, from onboarding through ongoing engagement, with clear expectations set at every stage
  • Lead regular check-ins and respond to client questions with clarity and confidence
  • Lead difficult conversations, including late or missing documents, unexpected tax outcomes, scope boundaries, and unrealistic requests, and keep them constructive
  • Hold clients accountable for their responsibilities, with clear deadlines, timely follow-up, and escalation when needed
  • Advocate for your clients internally, coordinating with our Bookkeeping, Tax, and Payroll teams, and pushing back when work is late or doesn't meet the standard we've promised
  • Review and QA monthly bookkeeping and P&Ls, then translate the numbers into plain-language insights clients can act on
  • Teach clients how to read their P&L, separate personal and business finances, and make sound financial decisions
  • Spot issues, trends, and risks in a client's finances and raise them before they become problems
  • Make sure clients always know what Cookie is doing for them, what comes next, and what they need to do and why it matters

What We're Looking For

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in a client-facing role such as account management, client services, or customer success, with a track record of owning relationships and managing expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult conversations, set boundaries, and push back professionally while keeping the relationship strong
  • Experience holding clients or partners accountable to deadlines and deliverables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain financial concepts simply to non-accountants
  • 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or tax services, with a solid grasp of P&Ls, balance sheets, and core accounting principles
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage many clients and relationships at once
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, changing startup environment
  • Interest in the creator economy and working with content creators preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
