Duties
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out procedures to foster a positive patient experience
- Manage appointment scheduling using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to optimize provider schedules
- Collect patient information accurately, update medical records, and ensure confidentiality in compliance with privacy regulations
- Perform medical coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to ensure precise billing and documentation
- Review and process insurance claims, verifying coverage details and submitting claims electronically or via paper submissions
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies to maximize revenue
- Maintain thorough knowledge of medical terminology, billing regulations, and coding updates to ensure compliance and accuracy
Experience
- Proven experience in a medical office setting with a strong background in medical billing and coding
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing patient records and documentation workflows
- Knowledge of ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding systems—ICD-9 and ICD-10—and CPT coding for procedures
- Understanding of DRG classifications used in hospital billing processes
- Experience handling medical collections, insurance verifications, and claim submissions
- Strong grasp of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare compliance standards
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment
