General Functions:
The Classroom Aide works in any classroom as needed to provide additional staff coverage, ensuring a healthy, safe, and nurturing learning environment while supervising simultaneous learning activities. This position supports classroom teachers in delivering quality education to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with a focus on increasing social competence, school readiness, and pride in traditional Alaska Native culture and heritage. Working in partnership with our people, the Classroom Aide contributes to CITC's mission by developing opportunities that fulfill our endless potential through culturally responsive early childhood education and family engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of lesson plans to enhance the education, health, social, and emotional growth of children and families served.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to meet educational and developmental goals, addressing the physical, emotional, social, cultural, cognitive, and language needs of enrolled children.
- Apply appropriate discipline and guidance techniques such as redirection, acknowledgement of appropriate behavior, and setting acceptable limits.
- Provide a healthy, safe, and secure learning environment using consistent limits, appropriate guidance techniques, and an atmosphere of respect for children and adults.
- Promote feelings of security and trust in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers by being warm, supportive, and comforting, and by establishing strong and caring relationships.
- Provide children with experiences and opportunities that allow them to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving skills, and creativity, as well as a sense of self and feeling of belonging.
- Conduct developmental screenings of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers across motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skill domains.
- Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with families, encourage program involvement, and promote parent-child bonding and nurturing relationships.
- Provide coverage at the Drop-in Center as needed, demonstrating flexibility with respect to time, days, and work tasks.
- Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

- Proficient with computers, including word processing, email communication, internet resourcing, spreadsheets, and childcare management software.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
- Commitment to required participation in 24 hours of training annually as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Core Competencies:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of experience working with children.
- Available to consistently work 29 hours per week.
- Infant/Toddler CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain within three months of employment.
- Must provide a copy of current Health Report.
- Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) certified at time of hire or willingness to obtain within two (2) years of employment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience working in a Head Start environment.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
- Able to get up and down off the floor with ease, including kneeling, bending, squatting.
- The ability to wear the appropriate PPE.
- Frequently exposed to bodily fluids.
- Possible exposure to noise, and contaminants such as cleaning solvents.
- Routinely exposed to outdoor conditions including inclement weather.
