What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Design Engineer position at Cook'd?
About the Job
We partner with exceptional NYC startups backed by top-tier investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and others.
This application puts you in front of founders actively hiring early engineering hires.
While each startup is different, most design engineering roles share a few core themes:
- Designing and shipping polished product experiences end-to-end — from Figma concepts to production React/TypeScript code
- Owning the product surface area, defining visual language, interaction patterns, and the overall feel of the product
- Building and evolving design systems — components, tokens, documentation, and primitives that scale across teams
- Prototyping rapidly (Figma, code, AI tools) to validate ideas before fully committing engineering resources
- Turning complex data or workflows into intuitive, elegant UI
- Creating growth and marketing assets (landing pages, social visuals, brand collateral) that match the product’s aesthetic
- Collaborating tightly with product and engineering to balance user experience, technical constraints, and speed
- Maintaining a high bar for craft — animation, micro-interactions, responsive behavior, and overall taste
