Job Summary:
The Health Paraprofessional assists and supports the school nurse with a variety of clerical and student health/medical services. The Health Paraprofessional is trained to perform basic health screenings/assessments, appropriately care for students who are ill, and carryout procedures under the direction of the school nurse.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate.
- Must hold the Educator License with Stipulations for Paraprofessionals - ELS (PARA).
- Experience in the health care field preferred.
- Knowledge of basic first aid.
- Ability to work closely with the school nurse and the administration to assist students with a variety of basic health care needs.
- Must be able to complete clerical tasks, including maintaining student health files and entering information into an electronic database.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, use of email and Google Suite applications.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administration.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrate initiative.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships as well as a commitment to teamwork.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides minor first aid treatment, when necessary.
- Communicates with parents regarding student's injuries and illnesses during school hours.
- Assists students that self-administer medication, as directed by the school nurse.
- Prepares student health information for the school nurse to report to the state.
- Maintains an updated student health needs list and communicates student needs with the school nurse and appropriate school personnel.
- Assists with clerical tasks, such as maintaining required information in the cumulative health record for each student.
- Prepares and distributes notices for immunizations, exclusions, physicals, dental, and vision exams, as directed by the school nurse.
- Assists with entering student health information in the electronic student database.
- Assists with distributing and organizing first aid supplies.
- Distributes communications to parents regarding contagious disease alerts or illnesses, as directed by the school nurse.
- Attends building meetings and in-service training, as required.
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
Salary and Benefits:
- Starting hourly pay of $18.01-$20.49.
- Hourly pay is commensurate with education.

Working Conditions:
