Laboratory Technician

Status: Full-time

North Shore Health has a 72 hour position as a Laboratory Technician- MLT or MLS. The Laboratory Technician performs and assists with routine responsibility within the General Laboratory as well as the specialty departments of Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology.
Additional duties may include, but are not limited to: assisting with and performing technical and scientific duties in both the general and specialty departments of the Laboratory as well as assisting with and coordinating Continuing Education, Competency, and new Lab Employee and student training.

Our full benefit package is available with this position and a minimum starting wage of $24.38.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE: Successfully complete Student Practicum/Internship required for Associate’s Degree Program. Typically includes a minimum of 16 weeks of hands on training in a Hospital Laboratory Setting. Internship must include General, Transfusion Medicine, and Microbiology laboratory experience.

EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent, from an accredited institution. An equivalent training program that satisfies the requirements stipulated by CLIA (subpart M, section 493.1489) may be considered with the approval of the Laboratory Medical Director.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Eligible for and successfully complete ASCP
certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) within 6 months of date of hire; or equivalent certification, with approval by the Laboratory Medical Director.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years experience as a Laboratory Generalist, two (2) years experience in Transfusion Medicine, and two (2) years experience in Microbiology.

EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree for Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent, from an accredited institution.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
