Position Summary:
The Surgical Services Liaison Registered Nurse (SSLRN) is responsible for entering and verifying orders, reviewing patient cases for completeness of these orders, and physician operative notes. This role serves as the clinical liaison and gatekeeper for accuracy and compliance between surgical teams, physicians, and administrative staff to ensure accurate and timely documentation and scheduling.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate degree (ADN) in Nursing required.
- Bachelor’s degree (BSN) in Nursing preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in surgical services or perioperative care.
- Experience with EHR systems and surgical scheduling software.
- Experience in utilization management preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and billing practices preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina in good standing (SCLLR) required.
- Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Accurately enter physician orders into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Coordinate and assist with scheduling surgical procedures in collaboration with physicians, surgical schedulers, and ancillary departments.
- Review operative notes post-surgery to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and billing requirements.
- Identify discrepancies or missing documentation and follow up with physicians or surgical staff for resolution.
- Collaborate with coding, billing and/or case management departments to ensure documentation supports appropriate reimbursement.
- Maintain knowledge of CMS guidelines, payer-specific requirements, and hospital policies related to surgical documentation.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives related to surgical documentation and scheduling.
- Provide education and feedback to physicians and staff regarding documentation standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
