Overview:
Our corporation is seeking a skilled Machine/Fabrication Shop Manager to lead and oversee all machine shop operations, including fabrication, welding, inventory control, and purchasing activities. The role involves managing daily operations, ensuring production standards, maintaining machinery, and leading a team of machinists, machine operators, welders, and fabrication personnel. The manager will oversee the use of equipment including but not limited to CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, MIG/TIG welding systems, plasma cutters, and press brakes. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of machine shop, fabrication, welding, inventory control, and purchasing procedures, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily machine shop, fabrication, welding, and Paint Shop operations, ensuring timely and accurate task completion.
Develop and implement policies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and safety across machine shop, fabrication, welding, inventory control, and purchasing processes.
Manage, train, and evaluate staff, including machinists, machine operators, welders, and fabrication personnel, addressing performance issues as needed.
Plan and coordinate maintenance of machines, fabrication tools, and welding equipment to minimize downtime.
Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with specifications in machining, fabrication, and welding.
Approve project designs, including fabrication and welding plans, and provide cost estimates.
Coordinate with departments, clients, and suppliers for seamless operations across all areas.
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards for machine shop, fabrication, welding, and inventory management activities.
Oversee inventory control, ensuring adequate supplies of raw materials, tools, and equipment for machining, fabrication, and welding.
Manage purchasing processes, including sourcing and procuring materials, tools, and equipment, while optimizing costs and supplier relationships.
Prepare and present performance, productivity, cost, and inventory reports for all shop activities.
Develop production schedules and ensure optimal functionality of machines, fabrication tools, and welding equipment.
Supervise fabrication and welding processes to ensure high-quality output and adherence to standards.
Monitor and control inventory levels, conducting regular audits to maintain accuracy and availability.
Address team disputes and ensure orders meet quality and delivery standards across all operations.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Machine/Fabrication Shop Manager or similar role, with expertise in fabrication, welding, paint, inventory control, and purchasing.
In-depth knowledge of machine shop, fabrication, welding, inventory management, and purchasing procedures and systems.
Strong leadership and team management abilities across diverse skill sets.
Expertise in safety and quality standards for machining, fabrication, welding, and inventory control.
Effective problem-solving, multitasking, and cost-optimization skills.
High school diploma or equivalent; degree in Engineering, Welding Technology, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
