We are seeking a Senior Accessibility QA Engineer to lead accessibility testing efforts across digital platforms and ensure compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.2 standards. This individual will partner closely with Product Owners, UX Designers, Developers, Scrum Teams, and Business Stakeholders to deliver accessible, inclusive, and user-centered digital experiences.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in accessibility testing methodologies, assistive technologies, compliance standards, and quality assurance practices. This role requires the ability to work independently, influence cross-functional teams, mentor junior staff, and drive accessibility best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead accessibility testing activities across web and digital applications to ensure compliance with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.2 (A & AA) standards.
- Develop and execute accessibility test strategies, plans, and test cases based on business requirements, technical specifications, and compliance standards.
- Conduct manual accessibility audits utilizing Trusted Tester methodologies, assistive technologies, and industry-standard accessibility testing tools.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track accessibility defects while providing clear remediation guidance to development teams.
- Validate accessibility fixes and perform regression testing to ensure compliance throughout the release lifecycle.
- Collaborate with UX, Product, Engineering, and QA teams to proactively identify and prevent accessibility issues during design and development phases.
- Assess accessibility risks, compliance gaps, and potential user impacts, providing recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including accessibility reports, audit findings, traceability matrices, and compliance evidence.
- Support functional testing efforts when required and contribute to overall product quality initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement of accessibility testing processes, standards, and best practices.
- Mentor and coach junior QA and accessibility team members on testing methodologies, compliance requirements, and assistive technology usage.
- Deliver accessibility training and awareness sessions to developers, designers, testers, and business stakeholders.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for accessibility compliance and digital inclusion initiatives across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in software quality assurance, accessibility testing, or digital accessibility consulting.
- Hands-on experience performing accessibility testing for web and mobile applications.
- Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.2, ADA, Section 508, ARIA, and other accessibility standards and regulations.
- Experience using assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, ZoomText, or similar tools.
- Trusted Tester Certification required; equivalent certifications such as CPWA, WAS, or DHS Trusted Tester are also acceptable.
- Experience creating accessibility test plans, test cases, audit reports, and remediation recommendations.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ARIA implementation, and accessibility best practices.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated accessibility testing tools such as Axe, WAVE, ARC Toolkit, Lighthouse, or Accessibility Insights.
- Experience developing test automation frameworks and integrating accessibility testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of cross-browser, cross-platform, and mobile accessibility testing practices.
- Previous experience leading accessibility initiatives or mentoring team members.
- Experience partnering with UX and design teams to implement accessible design patterns and inclusive user experiences.
