About the Role

Convergence is seeking a Commercial Lighting Controls Commissioning Agent to join our controls team.

This is a field-oriented technical position responsible for taking a commercial lighting control system from installation through successful startup, programming, testing, commissioning, and customer turnover.

The ideal candidate is a strong electrical and technical troubleshooter who enjoys solving problems in the field, working with contractors, and using technology to make complex control systems work as intended.

If you have experience as a commercial electrician, controls technician, building automation technician, or field service technician and are interested in expanding your career into commercial lighting controls, we want to talk with you.

What You'll Do

Commissioning & Programming

  • Perform onsite and remote startup and commissioning of commercial lighting control systems.
  • Configure and program control panels, processors, gateways, room controllers, sensors, switches, wireless devices, and related system components.
  • Program occupancy/vacancy sensing, daylight harvesting, schedules, scenes, dimming levels, load control, and other project-specific functions.
  • Implement project sequences of operation based on drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Perform functional testing and verify that completed systems operate as intended.

Field Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose issues involving wiring, communications, addressing, sensors, programming, networking, devices, and system configuration.
  • Determine whether field issues are related to installation, programming, equipment, or system application.
  • Work directly with electrical contractors to resolve installation and startup issues.
  • Coordinate with manufacturer technical-support teams when additional assistance is required.

Project & Installation Support

  • Review project information before commissioning.
  • Help verify jobsite readiness before scheduling startup.
  • Support prewire and installation reviews when required.
  • Identify deficiencies that could prevent successful commissioning and clearly communicate corrective requirements.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Support punch-list resolution and final project closeout.

Documentation

  • Complete required startup and commissioning documentation.
  • Document system deficiencies, programming changes, and unresolved field conditions.
  • Maintain project programming files, system backups, and other required records.
  • Communicate project status and outstanding issues to the appropriate project team.

Customer Training & Turnover

  • Provide operational training to contractors, facility personnel, building owners, and other authorized users.
  • Explain system schedules, overrides, scenes, sensors, and other customer-facing functions.
  • Make appropriate adjustments to system operation based on customer requirements and approved project scope.
