Job Summary:
We are seeking a responsible and motivated Blast Hole Driller to join our field operations team. This role involves operating a rock drill to create blast holes for controlled rock blasting at various job sites throughout East Tennessee. The ideal candidate must be capable of managing the drill pattern layout, maintaining accurate borehole data, and communicating clearly with blasters to ensure safe and effective blast execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a rock drill to accurately drill blast holes according to engineered patterns and specifications
- Manage the drill pattern layout and maintain oversight of drilling progress on-site
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on the drilling equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation
- Log and report all pertinent blast hole information, including depth, alignment, spacing, and any abnormalities
- Clearly communicate borehole conditions to the blaster, ensuring proper adjustments to blasting techniques can be made
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and adjust to varied terrain and job site environments
- Travel to different project locations throughout East Tennessee as needed
Qualifications:
- Experience operating rock drills or other heavy equipment in a construction or blasting environment (not a requirement if candidate is motivated to learn)
- Strong sense of responsibility and ability to independently manage the drill pattern on a job site
- Basic mechanical skills to conduct routine maintenance and identify equipment issues
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with blasters and site supervisors
- Ability to keep accurate drilling logs and attention to detail
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus
- Willingness to travel and work in outdoor conditions regularly
- Willingness to work overtime (typically 10 hour shifts 5 days a week)
- Must be able to pass a drug test
