Responsibilities include resolving customer complaints related to airflow, heating, cooling, and ventilation; responding to HVAC related alarms and elevator malfunctions; calibrating and maintaining pneumatic, electric, and computerized (DDC system) controls; inspecting chillers and ensuring containment and proper handling of refrigerants, which may contain chlorofluorocarbons and other hazardous materials; and other related work as required.Employees may work in detention facilities and in close proximity to inmates and patients. CCRMC assignments require shift work, including weekends and overnights. Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.Certificates: Must be Type 1 or Type 2 certified for Handling Chlorofluorocarbons at the time of application, and obtain a Federal Universal Certification for Handling Chlorofluorocarbons within nine (9) months from the date of hire.Education: 1) Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or high school proficiency certificates and (2) satisfactory completion of at least one college-level course in BOTH basic refrigeration and electricity OR completion of a HVAC trade school program.Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent experience as a stationary engineer or operating engineer maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment.Substitution for College Courses: An additional three (3) years of full time (or its equivalent) experience as a Stationary Engineer or Operating Engineer, maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment; one (1) year of which must have been at the journey levelSubstitution for Experience: Completion of a HVAC apprenticeship certification programOther Requirement: Applicants must be able to obtain the Detention Facility Clearance to work in the detention facilitiesCompany DescriptionThe Contra Costa County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) is responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 650 miles of roads, 79 miles of streams and channels, and over 150 County buildings.
