Description:

The Safety Manager reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments and designs programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury or disease in the workplace. Maintains and updates the Company safety manual and policies.

Guides and directs all safety activities on several projects while adhering to all company policies, OSHA and MSHA regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

· Develops and manages safety and health programs, training and inspections that comply with OSHA and MSHA regulations and industry best practices.

· Recommends and implements measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.

· Inspects and evaluates workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and governmental regulations.

· Orders suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.

· Investigates accidents and near-misses to identify causes and/or to determine how such accidents and near-misses might be prevented in the future.

· Conducts safety training programs and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.

· Maintains all safety training records for the Company.

· Investigates health-related complaints and inspects sites and facilities to ensure that they comply with laws and regulations.

· Collaborates with Project Managers to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.

· Provides new-employee health and safety orientations and develops materials for these presentations.

· Coordinates and maintains "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals.

· Maintains and updates emergency response plans or procedures.

· Inspects specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and/or first-aid supplies.

· Maintain OSHA and MSHA compliance on projects.

· Inspects and updates the onsite OSHA and MSHA binder for compliance.

· Ensure foremen / lead men have all OSHA and MSHA paperwork, and that it is organized and up to date.

· Performs random inspections of vehicles, equipment and projects.

· Attends all required OSHA and MSHA training.

Secondary Responsibilities

· Maintain all expense reports and ensures credit card receipts are coded correctly and turned in weekly.

· Always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

· Maintain company vehicle.

Knowledge

Proficient knowledge in the following areas or be willing to learn:

· Equipment safety.

· MSHA regulations.

· OSHA regulations.

· Site specific hazards and conditions.

· General site preparation techniques and procedures.

· Site preparation surveying and layout.

· Knowledge of operation of front-end loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of heavy equipment.

· Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage.

· Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.

· Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Safety Manager position is a mentally demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects, from time to time. The Safety Manager will have to work in all weather and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. The Safety Manager must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.
