Contour Engineering is currently recruiting for a Civil Design Engineer II with preferably 3-7 years’ civil engineering professional design experience for both our Tacoma and Gig Harbor offices. We are looking for aggressive, self-motivated engineers aspiring to join an expanding engineering firm. The desired candidate will have an EIT license with the goal of obtaining a PE license in the future, proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, and has extensive experience in Civil design and development of construction documents.

About the Position
Contour Engineering is seeking a Civil Design Engineer II with approximately 3–7 years of professional civil engineering design experience to join our Tacoma and Gig Harbor offices. This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys working on diverse land development projects and is progressing toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Design Engineers at Contour work as part of collaborative project teams and play a key role in developing high-quality engineering solutions and construction documents for a variety of project types.
The following tasks will be performed by the Design Engineer:
- Prepare civil engineering designs for private development projects, including residential subdivisions, multifamily developments, commercial sites, mixed-use projects, and light industrial facilities
- Design site grading, stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer, domestic water, fire lines, and private/public roadway improvements
- Perform civil engineering calculations and assist in preparing construction plans, reports, exhibits, and technical memoranda
- Develop subdivision layouts, site plans, utility plans, drainage reports, and stormwater analyses
- Conduct quality control reviews of calculations and plan sets
- Participate in design meetings and coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, clients, and reviewing agencies
- Assist Project Engineers and Project Managers with project development, troubleshooting, and design refinement
- Compile and submit permit applications to local and state agencies, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards
- Consider construction costs, regulatory requirements, environmental constraints, and project risks during design
- Prepare construction cost estimates and engineering analyses
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other industry-standard design software
- Use of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support project success
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
- 3–7 years of relevant civil engineering design experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with civil site design, grading, utilities, and stormwater facilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines
- Detail-oriented with a practical, problem-solving mindset
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a project team
Preferred:
- Experience working with local jurisdictions in Western Washington
- Familiarity with permitting processes and land use regulations
- Progress toward obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license
Location
We have two locations in Pierce County. One in downtown Gig Harbor and one in downtown Tacoma. We are currently looking to fill this position in the both offices.

Pay
Annual salary range: $82,000 – $105,000 depending on experience
Signing bonus is being offered to the right candidate.
