We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern this summer/fall to support our design and manufacturing teams in building and testing robotic systems. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates in engineering who want a fast-paced role with engineering design ownership and responsibilities. You will design, prototype, test, and release individual machine components and full mechanical systems. You will also gain hands-on experience with hardware assembly, integration, and testing in a fast-paced startup environment. You'll work directly with experienced engineers and technicians and play a key role in the prototyping and validation of robotic components.

About The Role
We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern this summer/fall to support our design and manufacturing teams in building and testing robotic systems. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates in engineering who want a fast-paced role with engineering design ownership and responsibilities. You will design, prototype, test, and release individual machine components and full mechanical systems. You will also gain hands-on experience with hardware assembly, integration, and testing in a fast-paced startup environment. You'll work directly with experienced engineers and technicians and play a key role in the prototyping and validation of robotic components.
Job Responsibilities
- System and part level design for an autonomous unloader robot
- Assemble and test industrial electro-mechanical systems
- Prototype mechanical solutions to dynamic problems, fabricating parts as needed (e.g. machining, sheet metal, 3D printing)
- Create system tests for verification of design/manufacturing
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on production robots
- Participate in design feedback sessions and contribute to process improvements
Required:
- Actively pursuing or recently completed a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- CAD experience of complex parts & assemblies (Solidworks preferred)
- Have designed and fabricated multi-disciplinary projects outside of class
- Machine shop experience (mill, lathe, laser cutter, shop tools)
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work at Contoro’s office location in Austin, TX
- FEA experience with Solidworks, ANSYS, or Abaqus
- Exposure to basic programming (Python, C ) or ROS
- Previous internship or co-op in a design role and/or a strong role in a student project team
- Real-world experience designing, building, and testing mechanical systems from the ground up
