What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Porter position at Continuum Services?
Day Porter
7:30am-4pm
(One Towne Square, Southfield MI)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine facility walk-throughs and report findings to the property manager and/or maintenance staff
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment; report restocking needs
- Review work order metrics and KPI reports, ensuring timely completion and proper follow-up
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, lobbies, offices, and common areas according to established standards
- Train new and existing janitorial team members on procedures and expectations
- Respond to and complete work orders promptly using the work order management system
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions
- Empty trash and recycling from interior and exterior areas; transport waste to designated disposal areas
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
- Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Attend required meetings and training sessions
- Report maintenance issues (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) to appropriate personnel
- Assist with light maintenance tasks (e.g., unclogging toilets, changing bulbs, minor repairs)
- Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and power washers
- Identify operational issues and suggest solutions for improvement
- Follow company policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency
- Comply with all applicable regulations and safety standards
- Provide additional support and complete other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of janitorial experience (commercial experience preferred)
- Knowledge of commercial cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment
- Experience with CMMS systems (e.g., MRI Workspeed, Sage) preferred
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently
- Basic proficiency with technology (Outlook, mobile devices, computers)
- Strong communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Travel Requirements
- Up to 50% travel may be required for Senior Day Porters covering multiple locations
- Valid driver’s license required for multi-location assignment
