Job Summary:

The Production Lead is responsible for ensuring the Production Team produces safe and high-quality products while operating at the defined levels of performance. They oversee the filling, packaging, handling, and reworking of products according to work order specifications while maintaining GMP-compliant processes and procedures.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead by example and ensure all established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Safety, and Quality policies are followed 

  • Train and mentor filler operators on equipment setup, operation, sanitation, changeovers, and production procedures while ensuring defined goals are being met 

  • Maintain and deliver progressive training for the assigned team: ensuring individual members are trained properly in accordance with production training packets 

  • Develop and teach high-impact production operators on all aspects of the job 

  • Oversee product filling and packaging processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to work order specifications 

  • Uphold comprehensive training for safe and efficient use of filler machines, HMIs, and other related systems 

  • Onboarding new hire in area of responsibility and actively provide the training needed.  

  • Ensure all equipment and components undergo proper sterilization and cleaning using COP, CIP, and SIP procedures 

  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the quality of the product and processes 

  • Oversee performance of regular CQP testing to validate seal integrity and product specifications 

  • Assist with minor equipment maintenance and repairs to prevent downtime. 

  • Responsible for overseeing material levels while the line produces products at the standard rate and meeting customer specifications 

  • Responsible for the documentation of products for the filler and capper machines, including taking weights, teardowns to check the integrity of the cartons, assuring caps are on properly, downtime recording, and documenting necessary information on the sanitation log 

  • Understand and maintain proper process flow with accuracy and consistency, making necessary adjustments to machinery as needed 

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic computer and control systems. Use of Microsoft Office programs.  

  • Understand the process flow and step-by-step requirements for aseptic manufacturing  

  • Follow and comply with all applicable GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, SQF, HACCP and all safety procedures 

  • Perform all other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:
  • Read, write, speak, and comprehend English. 

  • Comprehend basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, weights and measures, and efficient use of a calculator. 

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic computer and control systems. 

  • Possess mechanical aptitude with the ability to assemble, troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on manufacturing equipment. 

  • Ability to maintain both written and oral communication within the organization. 

  • Ability to give positive suggestions to improve operations in the work center. 

  • Team Oriented - being helpful, respectful, approachable, building strong working relationships and a positive work environment, is responsible, honest, loyal, interacting with others tactfully, appropriately, and adapting to change. 

  • Effective time management skills. 

  • Adaptability while maintaining and positive attitude.

  • Attain a passing score for all training packets on production operator positions.  

  • High school diploma or GED, and 2 years work experience in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Capable of demonstrating leadership capabilities: Conflict resolution, delegation, motivation, development, effective training, and problem solving.  

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to work beyond regularly scheduled hours during peak periods or critical operations 

  • Must possess adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to meet essential job performance and safety standards. 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and using hands for detailed tasks 

  • Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and using hand and power tools, including pallet jacks, scales, ladders, and standard material handling and cleaning equipment 

  • Capable of safely lifting up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the day; ability to handle heavier items with proper lifting equipment or team-assisted techniques to ensure safety 

Work Environment: 

Employees must be able to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may include exposure to odors, dust, moderate noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature and ventilation. Work environment may involve exposure to inclement weather. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, which may include but is not limited to: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hairnets, uniforms, respirators, and face shields, as required by specific job duties and safety protocols.

  • Partner with colleagues across all functions to share knowledge, skills, and information regarding quality and food safety. 

  • Adhere to all health and safety work practices. 

  • Exhibit an understanding of quality and food safety standards and be able to speak about the Finlays quality and food safety system and your role in it.  

  • Handle customer complaints in a timely and professional manner so that the customer is put first, always. 

  • Participate fully in Finlays programs that drive continuous improvement methodologies.
