A Respiratory Care Practitioner (also known as a Respiratory Therapist) in Oregon provides specialized care to patients with breathing disorders or cardiopulmonary issues. They work under the direction of a licensed physician in settings like hospitals, clinics, or home care, focusing on treatments to improve respiratory function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' respiratory conditions through diagnostic tests, such as pulmonary function tests, blood gas analysis, and EKGs.
  • Administer oxygen therapy, medications, and aerosol treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Manage mechanical ventilation and other life-support equipment for critically ill patients.
  • Perform bronchial hygiene procedures, like chest physiotherapy and drainage, to clear airways.
  • Educate patients and families on proper breathing techniques and home care management.
  • Monitor patient symptoms, adjust treatments, and collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and document patient progress.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree from a respiratory care program approved by the American Medical Association or equivalent, as recognized by the Oregon Respiratory Therapist and Polysomnographic Technologist Licensing Board.
  • Licensing: Must hold an active Oregon license issued by the Health Licensing Office. This requires being at least 18 years old, having a high school diploma or equivalent, passing a fingerprint-based national criminal background check, and completing the Oregon Laws and Administrative Rules examination.
  • Certification: Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of cardiopulmonary systems, ability to operate medical equipment, excellent communication, and attention to detail.
  • Other: CPR certification is often required; temporary licenses are available for recent graduates under supervision for up to six months.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to commit to full length of Strike.

Job Details & Benefits:

  • Compensation: $92 per hour
  • Start Date: Potentially early December 2025
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts (Days/Nights available)
  • Duration: 1-week commitment (60 hours total)
