We perform maintenance and modernization on all classes of major surface vessels, including CVN, CG, and DDG, as well as amphibious ships such as LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work spans a full range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability systems, supporting the readiness and mission success of the U.S. Fleet.
The Tool Room Attendant is responsible for stocking sufficient portable hand held industrial tools such as pneumatics, electrical, mechanical, welding, precision instruments, etc.- as needed in support of work by CMSD personnel; ensure proper control of these instruments, including issuing tools, maintenance of records, and making small repairs to tools.

- Ensures the quality standards are adhered to by him/her and other subordinates within the work group.
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Conducts visual inspections of any tool checked out of tool room for damage and electrical safety.
- Examines tools and equipment for defects and wear and reports damage or wear to supervisor.
- Inspects, issues, and accepts return of tools/equipment.
- Ensures return of issued tools, kits, and equipment back to the tool room after use.
- Organize tools and equipment on shelves and racks for easy access.
- Maintains tool room records and issue consumable supplies.
- Maintain and manage tool room clerical functions.
- Ensures daily clean-up of work site at end of each shift.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Trained in trade machine equipment.
- Ability to identify a selection of trade tools.
- Understanding of basic reading and mathematic skills.
- Ability to inspect and measure tools and equipment for defects and wear.
- Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment.
- Frequently moves throughout the shipyard.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 40 pounds.
- May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams.
