Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a Lathe Machinists and become a vital contributor to precision operations. The Lathe Machinist is responsible for the daily setup and operation of a variety of lathes that supports the production needs of the organization. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and will interact on a regular basis with other machinists and management.  This position works cooperatively with other organization staff.


Essential Responsibilities

·        Set up and operate CNC lathes to perform one or more machine functions and set up future jobs while machines are operating.

·        Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.

·        Mount, install, align and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on lathe. Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull-cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.

·        Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation, save modified programs, and submit them to Manufacturing Engineer.

·        Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, as well as the size of position cuts, control coolant needs.

·        Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.

·        Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors and to obtain approval to continue production.

·        Provide backup support for other machinists during planned and unplanned absences.

·        Attendance is an essential function of this position.

·        Performing all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education

·        Associate of Arts or Technical degree preferred

·        Advanced working knowledge of CNC and Manual turning components and operation

·        High School Diploma or GED is required


Experience

·        Minimum of 3 years prior lathe experience

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·        Clear, concise written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and build productive relationships with internal and external customers, including program staff, managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and vendors.

·        Current working experience with single-position milling fixtures and stand drill jigs.

·        Ability to read, interpret, and communicate technical information, including program specifications, blueprints, reports, general correspondence, and machine operation requirements to determine machining sequences, dimensions, and numerical control operations.

·        Mathematical proficiency with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and various units of measure.

·        Strong analytical, research, deductive reasoning, active listening, problem-solving, decision-making, and customer service skills.

·        Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

·        Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the judgment to seek guidance or assistance when appropriate.

·        Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, apply, and adapt to new skills, processes, technologies, and feedback.

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality while adhering to professional ethics, company policies, and applicable standards.

·        Demonstrated cultural awareness and the ability to work effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

 

Technical Skills

·        Ability to use a personal computer and standard business and other work-related software with minimal instruction.

 

Physical Demands

·        Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb stairs and ladders, and perform other physical activities associated with a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods.

·        Frequently use hands and fingers to write, operate computers and electronic devices, and safely use a variety of hand and power tools.

·        Regularly lift and carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, including boxes, tools, equipment, and materials.

·        Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

·        Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, including hot conditions in the summer and cold conditions in the winter.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a full-time position with an expected hourly wage of $30.00 to $33.00; depending on qualifications and experience.
