About the Role - The Commercial Underwriter is to assess and evaluate the risk associated with the underwriting and servicing of commercial business loans. They are primarily responsible for reviewing and analyzing various financial and non-financial information provided by applicant/clients to determine the level of risk associated with the lending and servicing package.
Primary Responsibilities:
Essential Origination Functions
- Review commercial packages for overall credit rating, cash flow requirements, debt/worth review, liquidity review and overall net worth.
- Conduct follow up communication to review the credit package for completeness and make a final credit recommendation.
- Analyze specific data, highlighting positives and negatives, then present analysis to credit team and/or Management with recommendations.
- Request UCC searches, obtain copies of bills of sale/completed invoices, and conduct/request physical inspections as needed.
- Review purchase documents for all signatures and verifying delivery and satisfaction of the collateral.
- Evaluate market conditions and compare them with applicants historical and/or projected financials to mitigate potential risks.
- Order third-party reports and analyze results.
- Follow up to ensure the broker gets paid and all funding has occurred.
Essential Servicing Functions
- Perform annual and/or quarterly portfolio reviews and ensure compliance with all covenants and deliver timely and accurate risk scoring based on updated financial conditions.
- Monitor accounts, provide customer service and support to clients in accordance with banking policies and principles, while treating everyone with respect
- Alert the management regarding delinquencies and assist with customer reach out.
- Participate in management meetings to evaluate processes and suggest ideas for process improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements
- BS in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or other related field; or the equivalent in experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of previous work experience in finance, analysis or related field.
- Extensive experience in structuring loans for equipment financing, commercial real estate, investment properties, commercial lines or credit, and SBA financing. Leveraged lending knowledge is a plus.
- Sound knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures reflective of the financial services industry.
- Ability to identify and problem solve many different issues.
