The Erosion Control Foreman will direct and manage the construction tasks and activities of craft and labor crews to construct roadways using construction plans to ensure safety, quality, production, and environmental goals are met. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Position has direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, quality workmanship, and completion of assigned projects on time and within estimated budget.
This position will primarily perform supervisory duties but may assist with general laborer and equipment operation tasks as needed.

What We Are Looking For
The Erosion Control Foreman will direct and manage the construction tasks and activities of craft and labor crews to construct roadways using construction plans to ensure safety, quality, production, and environmental goals are met. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Position has direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, quality workmanship, and completion of assigned projects on time and within estimated budget.
This position will primarily perform supervisory duties but may assist with general laborer and equipment operation tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
- Must maintain NPDES weekly report.
- Perform pre-task meetings with the erosion control crew to ensure safe work practices, procedures, and hazards are identified within the scope of the crew’s work assignment. Interpret company policy to workers, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and recommend corrective actions when performance and behavioral expectations and standards are not met.
- Be familiar with the type of soils on a site and ensure appropriate monitoring of oxygen levels within an enclosed excavation area. Give specific instructions on how to excavate, including at what angle and to what depth the crew should dig. Expected to be highly knowledgeable of reinforcement safety systems needed to be installed on the walls of a deep trench to prevent a cave-in.
- Experience installing Silt Fence, Slope Matting, Grassing & Various Erosion Control Devices
- Knowledgeable regarding erosion control in all aspects of construction process
- Performs inspections and reports on erosion control needs and status of previously installed devices
- Provide maintenance to all eroded areas and previously installed erosion control devices immediately following rain on the project.
- Identify and communicate potential or existing environmental hazards to management in a timely manner.
- Recognize material / tool / equipment requirements based on upcoming activities from drawing take-offs and layout work. Interpret blueprints specifications and job orders and assists worker in solving job site problems. Understanding plans, specifications, elevations, grades, and grade checks. Must be able to interpret grade and pave requirements. Thorough understanding of all base and grading equipment and processes.
- Supervise work crew and develop work schedules and recommend personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary actions. Check employee’s time sheets for accurate and cost coding and attendance. Ensure new employees are orientated to the job site for safety requirements and tool location. Maintains responsibility for tracking and maintaining tools.
- Assign work task and provide on-site instruction on work processes and procedures and inspect work for compliance with plans and specifications. Able to access work aptitude and ethic for new hires. Coordinate work schedules with other foremen and inspect materials. Operates power equipment and other machinery as needed and performs all task of worker in the crew as required.
- Receive instruction and specification from General Foremen and Superintendents and transmit them to other members of the crew and interface with project and field engineers and subcontractors as needed to carry out identified task and work orders.
- Act as first point of contact in superintendent’s absence to include interfacing with inspectors, EPA, OSHA, or any on site visitors. Participate in subcontractors and safety meetings, recognize, correct, and report safety hazards and halting unsafe work practices.
- Actively participates in the development of the Four Week Look Ahead schedules with the Superintendents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Experience: 3 years’ experience as an Erosion Control Foreman
- Supervisory experience is required
- Must have a valid NCDOT Level II Erosion Control Certificate
- Must be able to communicate effectively and get along with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to lift construction materials exceeding 50 lbs.
- Ability to resolve problems and make appropriate and timely decisions
- Ability to properly access and evaluate workers performance and workmanship.
- Ability to work independently, within a team and lead a team.
- Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent is preferred. A combination of education and experience is acceptable.
