We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist to join our client and play a vital role in supporting accurate and compliant revenue cycle operations. This fully remote, contract-to-hire position focuses on reviewing and coding complex surgical procedures—particularly within cardiology and orthopedics—to ensure accuracy, compliance, and optimized reimbursement.
Compensation:
- $25 – $35/hour based on experience
- Monday to Friday, standard business hours (Pacific Time)
- Review and audit complex surgical operative notes to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines and regulatory standards
- Serve as a key resource for resolving complex coding inquiries from clinical and administrative teams
- Address coding edits and denials, and assist in developing process improvements to support revenue integrity
- Stay current on coding rules and industry updates, especially related to cardiology and orthopedic specialties
- Participate in ongoing quality initiatives and contribute to the development of internal coding resources
- Active CPC or CCS certification required
- 3–5 years of hands-on medical coding experience with a focus on surgical procedures
- Strong expertise in cardiology and orthopedic coding
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient coding environments
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Preferred: Additional specialty coding credentials (e.g., CCS-P, CCVTC) and familiarity with AI-assisted coding platforms
