What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assembly Technician I - Data Center Infrastructure position at Contech?
Assembler - Data Center Infrastructure
About Us
Contech USA is a growing manufacturer of power distribution equipment in Goddard, Kansas. We’re a small, hands-on team where your work is seen and your ideas are heard. We take pride in building products right the first time.
About the Role
This is an entry-level assembly role for someone who likes working with their hands, follows instructions carefully, and takes pride in doing things right. You’ll prepare wire, help wire the inside of our units, and do basic mechanical assembly, working alongside experienced technicians who will train you.
No manufacturing experience is required. We’ll teach you our products, tools, and methods step by step. All work is done on unpowered units; you will not work on live electrical equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare wire: Measure, cut, strip, and label wire to the lengths and specs in the work instructions.
- Connect wires: Under supervision, connect prepared wires to breakers, terminal blocks, receptacles, and other components inside the unit, following wiring diagrams and work instructions.
- Do basic mechanical assembly: Mount hardware, install standoffs, and fasten components using hand and power tools.
- Kit and stage parts: Gather and organize the parts and materials needed for each build so the line keeps moving.
- Check your own work: Make sure each wire goes to the right place and each part is installed correctly before passing the unit on.
- Speak up about problems: Report defects, damaged materials, or missing parts to a senior technician or lead right away.
- Follow quality alerts: Read and follow any posted quality alerts posted on the floor.
- Work safely: Follow safety rules and requirements at all times.
- Keep things organized: Keep your work area clean and organized, and return tools and parts to their place.
- Keep pace with the build: Complete your assigned in the time set for each step, so units keep moving on schedule.
- Take initiative: When your task is done, look for what’s next: restock parts, help a teammate, or ask your lead where you’re needed.
- Keep learning: Complete on-the-job training as you build new skills.
What We’ll Teach You
- How to read our work instructions, wiring diagrams, and wire labels
- How to identify wire gauges, colors, terminals, and fasteners
- How to use strippers, cutters, drivers, and other assembly tools correctly
- What a good connection looks like, and what a bad one looks like
- Our safety and quality practices
What You Bring
- The ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English
- The ability to work at a steady pace and manage your time to meet production targets
- Initiative: you stay busy, see what needs doing, and ask questions instead of waiting to be told
- Basic math and measuring skills (tape measure or ruler)
- Good hand coordination and comfort working with small parts
- The ability to tell wire colors apart
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Reliable attendance and a team-first attitude
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in manufacturing, assembly, or warehouse work
- Experience with hand tools, wiring, or electrical work (home projects count)
Physical Requirements
- Standing and/or sitting for long periods; frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motion
- Lifting up to 50 lbs; heavier items with help or lifting equipment
- Close-up visual work with small parts, wire gauges, and markings

- Level 4: Handling complex and custom builds, troubleshooting, and training other technicians.
