Overview
We are seeking a skilled CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP) to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in telecommunications, specifically in fiber-optic design for both Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) environments. The CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP) will work remotely, with occasional travel to job sites in NJ/NYC for surveys and meetings in Millburn, NJ.
Key Responsibilities
Develop CAD drawings for fiber-optic ISP/OSP projects, including construction plans, as-builts, and permit packages.
Draft and review cable routing for aerial, underground, conduit, manhole, and riser pathways as a CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP).
Map splice points, cable routing, and continuity paths.
Convert field survey data, including photos, notes, and measurements, into precise CAD drawings.
Embed images, create viewports, and publish DWG-to-PDF as part of the CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP) role.
Convert PDFs to DWG and prepare non-scale drawings as necessary.
Conduct or support make-ready surveys and on-site route verifications.
Ensure compliance with telecom regulations, permitting requirements, and CATV standards.
Maintain documentation, survey reports, and drawing packages for internal and client use.
Clean and optimize CAD files (Overkill/Purge) for sharing.
Required Skills & Experience
3–5 years of CAD design experience in telecom, fiber, or CATV (OSP/ISP) is essential for the CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP) role.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, including extend, trim, hatch, splits, and sketch tools.
Ability to read and draw floor plans, riser diagrams, and cable routing.
Experience with aerial and underground fiber design is crucial for a CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP).
Knowledge of the NYC ECS system is preferred.
Experience collaborating with Comcast, Altice, or similar CATV providers is preferred.
Willingness to travel locally to sites in Northern NJ and NYC, with expenses reimbursed.
Familiarity with telecom permitting processes and GIS/drafting practices.
Education
A college degree is preferred, or equivalent hands-on telecom CAD experience is acceptable for the CAD Designer – Fiber / Telecommunications (OSP ISP) position.
