Interdisciplinary - Geographer/Biologist/Physical Scientist/Cartographer (GIS Specialist)

You will serve as a Interdisciplinary - Geographer/Biologist/Physical Scientist/Cartographer (GIS Specialist) with the National Park Service.Qualifications:All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/28/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Basic Requirements for Geography Series 0150:

A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree a major subject such as geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. You must provide copies of your transcripts.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as listed above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide copies of your transcripts.

Basic Requirements for Biology Series 0401:

A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree a major subject such as biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must provide copies of your transcripts.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as listed above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide copies of your transcripts.

Basic Requirements for Physical Science Series 1301:

A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree a major subject such as physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. You must provide copies of your transcripts.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors listed above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education. You must provide copies of your transcripts.

Basic Requirements for Cartography Series 1370:

A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree a major subject such as cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). You must provide copies of your transcripts.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as listed above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide copies of your transcripts and the hours per week.

In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements listed above, you must meet the following:

Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: consulting with end users and partners to contextualize GIS applications to produce visual mapping products; managing IT and GIS database details in a dependable format with appropriate hardware and software; preparing GIS plans, data dictionaries, project proposals, and written reports. You must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Education:This position has a mandatory education requirement.
