General Summary

The Suicide Prevention Program Manager will lead and support county-wide suicide prevention efforts through a systems-level approach. This role involves identifying gaps in services and systems using data, engaging diverse stakeholders, and implementing evidence-based frameworks, such as Zero Suicide. The Manager will facilitate Onondaga County Suicide Prevention Coalition meetings, foster collaboration across sectors, establish a unified data strategy, and drive initiatives that reduce suicide risk and promote mental wellness. The position also includes organizing awareness events, coordinating training opportunities, and aligning local efforts with New York State and federal suicide prevention frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify systemic gaps in suicide prevention efforts and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement solutions.
  • Establish and maintain a countywide data strategy to monitor suiciderelated trends and inform prevention planning.
  • Convene and facilitate monthly coalition meetings, ensuring inclusive participation and strategic alignment.
  • Build and sustain relationships with individuals and organizations engaged in suicide prevention, bridging them to coalition efforts.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement around the Zero Suicide framework, including education, planning, and implementation support.
  • Coordinate and promote suicide prevention training, ensuring accessibility and relevance to community needs.
  • Plan and execute public awareness campaigns and events to reduce stigma and increase knowledge of suicide prevention resources.
  • Identify highrisk populations and coordinate targeted prevention strategies in collaboration with community partners.
  • Align local initiatives with New York State and federal suicide prevention frameworks, ensuring compliance and leveraging available resources.
  • Maintain communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and the coalition website to share updates and resources.
  • Prepare annual strategic plans, reports, and evaluations to assess coalition impact and guide future efforts.
  • Complete all required program and/or funder training and all agency required training such as NYS Mandated Reporter and Sexual Harassment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, agency meetings and events.
  • Ensure all data and records are maintained following privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as they develop and are assigned

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Previous Experience Requirement

  • Minimum 35 years of experience in mental health, public health, or human services.
  • Demonstrated experience in coalitionbuilding, community engagement, or systemslevel program coordination.
  • Experience working with datadriven initiatives.
  • Experience in facilitating stakeholder meetings, managing crosssector partnerships, and implementing strategic plans.
  • Familiarity with state and federal suicide prevention frameworks is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills Needed to Perform Effectively in this Position

  • Understanding of suicide prevention strategies, risk factors, and protective factors across diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation to inform decisionmaking and identify service gaps.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Skilled in facilitation, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across sectors.
  • Knowledge of evidencebased frameworks such as Zero Suicide and ability to lead implementation efforts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, strategic plans, and presentations.
  • Technological proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online collaboration platforms.

  • Reliable transportation to drive to required locations
  • This position requires flexibility to support evening and weekend community and stakeholder meetings and events, as scheduled.
  • Must submit to and pass background checks and educational verification if required.

Salary : $62,354 - $75,000
