This is an onsite position at the Consumers Energy Laboratory Services located in Jackson, MI.
We are looking for: Non-Destructive Testing Technician (Technician I)
As a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician, you will perform NDT examinations and related activities such as: Radiography, Ultrasonic examinations, Visual examinations, Liquid penetrant, Magnetic particle, and Eddy current testing. Projects are typically located at fossil generating plants and natural gas pipelines along with other natural gas and electric generation facilities. NDT Technicians are required to evaluate test results in accordance with nationally accepted codes and specifications. The individual will be required to work on extended out of town assignments within the state of Michigan and be willing to work significant overtime as necessary to meet job commitments. The position will require the individual to certify as an industrial radiographer and several other NDT test methods upon completion of training. This position involves work with high energy radioactive isotopes.
We encourage you to apply if you have:
- Associate degree in a scientific or technical field (OR 48 credit hours as measured on a semester basis) OR, No Degree, and four (4) years of applicable experience
- Degree requirement may be waived if the applicant can provide documented Level II training and certifications in Radiographic Testing (RT) [including a current Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety (IRRSP) card] or Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level II certification.
- Consideration will also be given to individuals holding a current American Welding Society, Certified Welding Inspector (AWS CWI) certification.
Preferred Skills:
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Level II/III Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in applied science
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes
- Competence in primary MS Office applications
- Experience with SAP applications
In this role, you will:
- Perform technical support functions and more complex tasks including establishing workload and organizing and conducting assignments according to deadlines.
- Set up tech support systems including record maintenance, data submission, and project management.
- Provide backup department support.
- Prepare reports, and tech support material as directed from time to time.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform or establish procedures for tech support functions and actions including records, tracking of information, maintaining logs/spreadsheet, and other similar technical support.
- Under general direction, prepare special or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries, selecting relevant information from a variety of sources such as reports, documents, correspondence, other areas of the Company, etc.
- Ensure that requests for action or information are relayed to appropriate staff members; ensures that information is furnished in a timely manner; decides whether a higher authority should be notified of important or emergency matters.
- Periodically evaluate process and program effectiveness and takes action to maintain continuous improvement.
- Participate as an active technical support team member by contributing to program development and organization planning.
- Operate a computer terminal and utilizes necessary software applications.
- Perform responsibilities in a manner that clearly shows effective communication and cooperation and that promotes open exchange of information, respect, high ethical standards, and professionalism.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
