Role Overview: The Safety Specialist promotes a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by conducting proactive safety rounds and assisting clinical staff with managing escalated, threatening, or aggressive behaviors using evidence-based de-escalation and aggression management techniques.
Key Responsibilities: Serve as a safety expert in patient care areas, perform safety rounds, identify potential risks, develop supportive relationships with patients, respond to staff requests, apply de-escalation and physical restraint techniques, initiate debriefings, collaborate with safety personnel, intervene during escalating situations, assess behavioral changes, and document encounters.
Qualifications & Skills: High school diploma or equivalent, minimum 2 years of relevant experience in verbal and physical de-escalation within an acute psychiatric setting, healthcare experience, psychiatric work experience, training in de-escalation and aggression management, and BLS certification or within one month of hire.
