About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership position responsible for the architecture, customization, and integration strategy of an enterprise Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform. The person in this role will own the technical design of server-side extensions, web-client customizations, and integrations connecting the PLM system to ERP, manufacturing, CAD, and other downstream systems. It requires close partnership with functional analysts, platform administrators, infrastructure engineers, and outside implementation partners to keep the platform reliable, well-architected, and compliant with relevant industry standards. Beyond hands-on development, this role also sets engineering standards, mentors other developers, and leads a significant platform migration effort. It's a strong fit for someone who wants to combine deep technical ownership with real influence over a team's practices and direction.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture for a PLM platform's customizations, integrations, and extensions across server-side, client, and integration layers, setting standards and reusable patterns for the wider team.
• Lead the design, development, and testing of complex server-side customizations, including custom handlers, user exits, and service-layer extensions, personally taking on the most technically demanding builds.
• Lead a platform migration effort, setting technical standards and architectural direction while ensuring customizations are well-built, supportable, and properly validated within a regulated environment.
• Architect and review data-model extensions, including custom business objects, properties, methods, and related business rules, and determine when custom code is justified versus configuration.
• Drive the customization strategy for the platform's web client, including declarative UI definitions, custom commands, client-side event handling, and menu or toolbar integration, establishing front-end engineering standards along the way.
• Define reusable workflow and business-process handler patterns supporting engineering change, document control, and product release processes.
• Architect integrations between the PLM platform and upstream or downstream systems (ERP, manufacturing execution systems, CAD, quality systems, and middleware), owning end-to-end integration design across the broader technology landscape.
• Establish standards for technical design documentation, code reviews, unit-test results, deployment runbooks, and validation-supporting documentation consistent with applicable regulatory and quality requirements.
• Own configuration-management strategy for customization assets under source control, along with code-review practices, CI/CD pipelines, and secure-coding standards.
• Partner with platform administrators on environment promotion, template deployment, search/indexing configuration, and upgrade or patch impact analysis, leading technical impact assessments for platform upgrades.
• Serve as the escalation point for production issues, performance concerns, and integration failures, leading root-cause analysis and driving permanent fixes.
• Mentor senior and junior developers, lead technical reviews, contribute to architectural decisions on the platform roadmap, and represent the engineering team in cross-functional architecture discussions.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a Master's degree is a plus.
• At least 7 years of hands-on development experience with a major enterprise PLM platform, including at least 5 years customizing its modern web client.
• Extensive experience extending the platform's data model, including building custom properties and methods, and packaging templates for deployment across multiple environments.
• Extensive experience leading customization of a modern PLM web client, including declarative UI definitions, custom commands, client-side handlers, and API-based service consumption.
• Experience setting technical standards and mentoring senior engineers on a PLM or comparable enterprise platform team.
• Experience operating in regulated environments and owning validation-supporting artifacts, with familiarity with computer-system validation practices.
• Expertise in a systems-level programming language (such as C/C ) for platform extension development, along with strong working proficiency in at least one modern web or scripting language.
• Proven track record architecting integration patterns connecting a PLM platform with ERP systems or comparable enterprise applications, using service-oriented, REST, or message-driven approaches.
• Strong working knowledge of relational databases for diagnostics, schema design, and integration, including the ability to read execution plans and tune queries.

• Experience in medical device, life sciences, aerospace, defense, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
• Relevant platform certifications in server-side development, data modeling, or web-client customization.
• Proficiency with source control, code-review tooling, and CI/CD pipelines, along with experience remediating static-analysis and software-composition-analysis findings.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, design patterns, modular architecture, and disciplined testing practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and produce audit-ready documentation.
• A security-conscious mindset, applying secure-coding practices and partnering well with security teams on findings remediation.
• A proactive, collaborative, and self-motivated approach, with strong critical thinking and sound judgment in ambiguous technical situations.
• A continuous-learning mindset, staying current on platform releases, emerging integration patterns, and modern development tooling.
