Job Summary
Constructors Inc. is looking for a highly motivated General Laborer to assist crews with the general construction of roads, heavy highway, bridges, and other paving projects. This includes preparing areas for asphalt and concrete surfaces by using hand and power tools as required. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist work crews with concrete forms and/or asphalt paving in construction and maintenance activities including quality control.
Must observe and practice safety standards and policies of the department.
Compact and level earth to grade specifications.
Spread asphalt and concrete.
Load, unload, and handle steel and wood paving forms and accessories.
Drill and install concrete dowels and tie bars.
Assist with directing dump trucks for asphalt and concrete.
Set string line for alignment and grade.
Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Lubricate, clean, and fuel machinery, equipment, and tools.
Meet the obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Employee must be able to operate hand tools, edging tools, power grinders, edging saws and shovels.
- Must be able to work according to seasonal and order demand schedule.
- Must be able to safely maneuver a truck over varied terrain.
Work Environment
This is a physically demanding job that regularly requires the employee to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
The employee must be able to pull or lift heavy boxes about ranging from 50 to 100 pounds to waist height.
When operating the push concrete saw, this does require 100 pounds 20 feet of force using arms and shoulders to move the saw through concrete product.
Does require bending for hand held cut saw.
Must be able to climb into the bed of a 1 ton truck to fuel the air compressor on/off.
Will drag the air hose to approximately 50 feet to force air out of the pipe.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Employee is required to do general concrete labor with forms and shovel when needed.
Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment while performing the job
The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is occasionally exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.
The noise level will very while in the field.
Work may be away from home requiring overnight stays possibly a week at a time or longer.
This is a non-smoking campus and facility.
