Position Overview:
The Structural Steel Project Manager oversees structural steel projects from award through completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the company’s quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate has a strong background in structural steel fabrication, erection, and project management, with thorough knowledge of structural steel plans and detailing requirements.
What you’ll do:
- Contract Review & Interpretation: Review and interpret contract documents, plans, and specifications. Develop a proactive execution plan and communicate it clearly to the team. Take ownership of all aspects of project execution.
- Project Preparation: Break down plans to identify potential issues, prepare RFIs, and add critical notes and instructions to plan sets for team guidance.
- Detailing: Review detailing for accuracy before submission, coordinate with detailers throughout the project, and prepare hand shop drawings when necessary. Ensure accuracy of both submittal and fabrication drawings.
- Procurement & Buyout: Procure all project materials and subcontractors, manage overall project budget, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Project Execution: Conduct field measurements, develop site-specific erection plans, and coordinate with fabrication teams. Be present on site as needed to ensure smooth project execution.
- Managing Relationships: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers. Maintain proactive communication via phone, email, and project software. Handle scheduling, problem-solving, project updates, jobsite meetings, change orders, billing, and conflict resolution efficiently.
Who You Are:
You are an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager with 5 years in project management, proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Procore, and ERP systems. You bring strong organizational, planning, and time management skills, combined with excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and professionalism. You thrive in fast-paced environments, can multitask, and prioritize urgent work while solving problems efficiently.
You are comfortable working on construction and industrial sites for extended periods, including at heights, lifting up to 50 lbs., and performing bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching tasks. You can read plans, inspect welds, and operate field technology such as tablets, radios, and laser levels. You understand the importance of PPE and safety, and you are prepared for exposure to moving equipment, outdoor conditions, noise, dust, and fumes. Travel to remote sites and a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, are part of your professional approach.
