The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, consumables, equipment rentals, fuel, sanitation services, and other project-related items. This role requires strong vendor relationships, cost-control awareness, and the ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment. A background in construction supplies, experience with equipment rentals, and trucking logistics is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure consumables, fuel, equipment rentals, sanitation services, and other project-specific needs in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Source and negotiate with vendors to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms.
- Establish and maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships to ensure reliability and quality.
- Coordinate delivery schedules to job sites, ensuring materials and services meet project timelines.
- Review and process purchase orders, ensuring compliance with company policies and budgetary guidelines.
- Monitor inventory levels and proactively manage stock for frequently used items.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and accounting to ensure accurate billing and cost allocation.
- Track and report on purchasing activities, vendor performance, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Resolve discrepancies with orders, invoices, and deliveries promptly.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes
Experience and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 0-5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management (construction industry preferred).
- Familiarity with construction materials, equipment rentals, and trucking logistics is highly desirable.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing software.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
