What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Controller — Construction position at Construction Irish - USA?
I'm working with a well-established construction company in Queens looking to bring on a hands-on Finance Controller to own the numbers behind a busy project pipeline.
This is a build-and-run role for someone who knows construction accounting cold — WIP schedules, job costing, AIA billing, and the rhythm of a contractor's books. You'll report directly to ownership and act as the financial backbone of the business.
What you'll own:
- Full-cycle accounting — month-end close, financial statements, GL
- Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and job cost analysis across active projects
- AIA progress billing, requisitions, and subcontractor payment management
- Cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and project profitability tracking
- Lien waivers, retainage, and compliance reporting
- Managing the AP/AR function and the accounting team
What you need:
- 7–10 years of accounting/finance experience, with construction industry experience required (non-negotiable)
- Strong grasp of percentage-of-completion accounting and WIP
- Experience with construction accounting software (Sage 300 CRE / Foundation / Viewpoint / CMiC or similar)
- Comfortable in a fast-moving GC environment where you wear multiple hats
- Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance (CPA a plus, not required)
The details: Onsite in Queens. $150k base. This suits someone currently in a Controller or Assistant Controller seat at a GC or sub who wants the full ownership a smaller, growing contractor can offer.
Salary : $150,000
