What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Marketing position at Constant Hire?
Hiring a VP of Marketing to own the brand’s growth engine and take the business from $7M to 10 million while building the marketing function that gets it there.
Location: On site, hybrid schedule (3 days on site, 2 remote) in Lafayette, Indiana
About Us:
We started in 2014 in founder in a kitchen making a product we loved. It’s grown from $300K in revenue to the $7 to 9 million range today, a bootstrapped, 100 percent founder owned business buil. The brand runs on soy based candles in classic, nostalgic, farmhouse fragrances, and wins on three things: craftsmanship, hospitality that actually shows up in how customers get treated, and fulfillment fast enough that 98 percent of orders ship within two days. Customer NPS sits at 86 and the company has been Great Place to Work certified five years running, with a majority Gen Z and millennial team that runs on EOS in a casual, non-corporate environment built around the value of care through action.
Role Overview
This is the seat that has been held by the founder while the company scaled past $7 million, and now it’s ready for a full time owner. You’ll report directly to CEO Jarrett and lead a team of four, running customer acquisition, growing the subscription box toward 30 percent of revenue, and fixing paid CAC without losing the human touch that got this brand to an 86 NPS. All paid media runs in house today, no agencies, and that’s not changing. You’re building the next chapter of the marketing org, not inheriting one that already works.
What You’ll Do
- Own the P&L: Take direct ownership of D2C e-commerce performance against revenue and growth targets, reporting results and forecasts straight to the CEO.
- Fix paid CAC: Diagnose and rebuild the paid acquisition engine so customer acquisition cost moves in the right direction without cutting into the affiliate and influencer channels that carry most of the budget today.
- Scale subscriptions: Drive the subscription box from its current share of revenue toward a 30 percent target, working closely with Recharge and the ecommerce stack.
- Build the team: Lead and develop a four person team including a Marketing Operations Manager, a Creative and E-commerce Director, a Marketing Director, and a Marketing Generalist, and manage the change that comes with stepping into a founder led seat.
- Run the forecast: Own budget planning and ROI reporting across roughly 8 to 9 percent of net sales in marketing spend, with a clear read on what’s working and what isn’t.
- Keep the brand voice intact: Protect the craftsmanship, hospitality, and fast fulfillment that define the brand as you professionalize the marketing function around it.
Who You Are
- You’ve owned a D2C e-commerce P&L before and can point to specific growth targets you hit.
- You’re a strong operator first. Forecasting and ROI aren’t afterthoughts; they’re how you run the function.
- You’ve led teams through real change, not just managed people who were already aligned.
- You come from in-house brand marketing rather than an agency background.
- E-commerce chops matter more to you than a CPG resume line, and it shows in how you talk about the work.
- You’re comfortable being on site most of the week and close enough to the office to make that easy.
- You communicate like an owner. Direct, clear, and comfortable working closely with a founder who is still deeply involved.
This role is ideal for an operator who has built a P&L before and wants to take a founder led brand from $7 to 10 million without losing what makes it feel like us
