Overview
The Staff Physician will be responsible for assisting with the company's occupational health and medical programs. The primary role of the Staff Physician is to examine and evaluate employees for occupational health related matters, formulate recommendations, and monitor trends. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with the Director and Administrative Physician and Union stakeholders on providing guidance to Labor Relations, Human Resources and employees regarding occupational health policies and procedures and federal regulatory compliance.Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities- Assess employee's safe work capacity based on history, physical examination and review of records.
- Provide post-offer physicals, fitness-for-duty examinations and occupational surveillance evaluations, i.e. respiratory clearance, asbestos.
- Perform National Registry of Certified Medical Examiner (NRCME) commercial driver examinations.
- Conduct Medical Review Officer (MRO) consultations as specified under the DOT Drug Free Workplace Program.
- Participate in arbitrations and unemployment insurance/worker's compensation hearings on an as needed basis.
- May participate in epidemiologic studies to monitor occupational health trends throughout the company and assist in providing guidance for quality improvements in the clinic.
- Stay abreast of current trends and scientific literature in the occupational health field with particular attention to the utility industry.
- Provide support to the Medical Director and Administrative Physician during his/her periods of absence.
- Maintain employee confidentiality and protect the integrity of Personally Identifiable Information/Personal Health Information.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the Administrative Physician and Director in support of Departmental function.
- Other projects as needed to support departmental goals.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- Doctor of Medicine/MD and 6 years Post-graduate experience in a primary care, urgent care or emergency room setting.
- 3 years Experience in occupational health
- Must have professional, polished oral and written communication skills in person, over the phone, and through email. Required
- Must have strong interpersonal skills. Required
- Expertise in computer applications MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required. Required
- Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills are required to be effective in this role. Required
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills will allow candidates to be flexible to manage a variety of tasks and meet deadlines, which is also required for this position. Required
- Previous experience with electronic medical records, specifically Medgate preferred. Preferred
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety concepts of OSHA regulations.
- Driver's License Required
- Other: License to practice medicine in New York State, or the ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license upon appointment. Required and
- Other: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine. 1 Year Required and
- Other: NRCME certification. 90 Days Required and
- Other: MRO certification. 180 Days Required
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
