The Safety Specialist supports the development and implementation of the Corporate Safety and Health Management Plan for generation facilities. This role ensures a safe and healthy work environment through employee education, facility inspections, and compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the position provides support for plant physical security activities.
Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant.
Reports To: Team Leader, Generation Safety & Security
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement plant and corporate safety policies and procedures to promote safe work practices.
- Maintain knowledge of OSHA and IOSHA regulations; conduct regular plant safety inspections.
- Coordinate emergency response teams, drills, and training; prepare annual drill calendars and budgets.
- Liaise with local fire departments to ensure familiarity with plant systems and emergency protocols.
- Oversee housekeeping policies and supervise labor service personnel to maintain safe plant conditions.
- Investigate accidents and recommend corrective actions to eliminate unsafe practices or conditions.
- Manage inventory of PPE, first aid supplies, and safety equipment; ensure timely completion of safety work orders.
- Serve as a resource for plant management and employees on safety programs and loss prevention.
- Maintain compliance and exchange information with regulatory agencies and insurance representatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
