SY 26-27 - Extended Day Program Assistant (FT)

Conservatory Lab is a charter public school located in Dorchester, Massachusetts serving students from all over the City of Boston. The school population includes a majority of students from historically underrepresented communities, and supports all students as they develop a sense of ownership of their learning.

Extended Learning:

The Make Move Jam Extended Learning Program is designed to include elements of the National Arts Education Association’s (NAEA) High Level standards combined with guidelines for Creative Youth Development. Past programs have included not just the arts (visual arts, dance, chorus, media arts, and creative writing) but place-based learning, coding, and STEAM.

Job Duties:

• Program Assistants will assist with program facilitation and classroom management, in an active informal learning environment during the after school period,

• Facilitate a variety of activities for children 

• Supervise students ranging in age from elementary to middle school

• Provide individualized attention to students as they work on projects designed to promote academic, artistic, and social emotional development. 

• Assist the Program Mentor with record keeping, documentation, and classroom cleanliness.

• Communicate with school based staff and family members.

• This role will anchor an expansion of our Out of School time program providing preparation and planning support, and with the potential to contribute to program content. 

• If you are interested in Full Time: Before the end of the school day, the Program Assistant will serve as an Instructional Support Assistant. 

• If you are interested in Part Time: you will only work the after school period up to four days a week (Monday through Thursday).  

Desired Qualities

• Experience working with school aged children

• Interest in education, particularly in project-based learning, music, or the arts. 

• A strong sense of classroom routines and an ability to connect to students of all ages.

• Flexibility and strong communication with other adults. This is a collaborative role which will require a sense of when to step up and when to step back. 

• An emerging understanding of child development, and a sense of priorities within a classroom environment.

• The ability to promote student growth with active listening, open-ended questions, and giving feedback that encourages students to persevere and make high quality work.

• Part time role: May be appropriate for a current student (Undergraduate or Graduate).

• Full time role: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
