Lead Irrigation Technician: Conserva Irrigation of Northern VirginiaHelp Build One of Northern Virginia's Most Respected Irrigation Companies

Most irrigation companies are looking for someone to run service calls.

We're building Northern Virginia's premier water conservation company. Irrigation is what we do. Helping customers use water more efficiently is why we do it.

As our first Lead Irrigation Technician, you'll do more than diagnose problems and repair irrigation systems. You'll help establish the standards we work by, mentor future technicians, and play a meaningful role in building a company known for quality craftsmanship, exceptional customer service, and responsible water use.

If you take pride in your work, enjoy solving problems, and want to help build something the right way, we'd love to meet you.

A Note From the Owner

Hi, I'm Zach, owner of Conserva Irrigation of Northern Virginia.

For more than 20 years, I've had the opportunity to build and lead teams for some of the country's fastest-growing companies. One lesson has stayed with me throughout my career.

I've always believed great businesses are built by great people.

I'm not looking to build the biggest irrigation company in Northern Virginia. I'm looking to build one of the most respected.

That starts with hiring people who care about doing quality work, treating customers the right way, and helping the people around them get better.

I'm looking for someone who wants to grow alongside the business, not just work for it. If you're excited about helping build something the right way and taking on more responsibility as we grow, I think you'll find a great opportunity here.

– Zach Yost Owner, Conserva Irrigation of Northern Virginia

Who We Are

At Conserva, we're in the business of helping homeowners maintain beautiful landscapes while using water responsibly.

That means we don't just repair irrigation systems. We improve them.

Every service call is an opportunity to make a system perform better, reduce unnecessary water use, improve reliability, and help customers understand how to get the most from their investment.

We're building a company that customers trust because we do quality work, communicate honestly, and leave every property better than we found it.

The Opportunity

This isn't a typical technician position.

As our Lead Irrigation Technician, you'll help build the technical foundation of our company. You'll work alongside the owner to establish field standards, improve operating procedures, mentor future technicians, and create the customer experience we're known for.

You'll have the opportunity to influence how we hire, how we train, and how we continue raising the bar as the company grows.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnose and repair residential and commercial irrigation systems
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, spring startups, and winterizations
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot smart irrigation controllers
  • Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, reduce water waste, and maximize landscape health
  • Help customers understand how thoughtful improvements today can prevent larger problems tomorrow
  • Maintain accurate digital work orders using a company-provided tablet
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience on every visit

As the company grows, you'll also:

  • Help recruit, train, and mentor new technicians
  • Establish field standards and best practices
  • Improve service quality, efficiency, and consistency
  • Help build one of the area's most respected irrigation teams

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is proud of their craft and wants to help build something that lasts.

Qualifications include:

  • 5 years of irrigation service and repair experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Experience with Hunter, Rain Bird, Toro, or similar systems
  • Virginia Backflow Prevention Certification (or ability to obtain before starting)
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Comfortable using tablets and mobile technology
  • Strong communication and customer service skills

The ideal candidate also:

  • Takes ownership and follows through
  • Enjoys mentoring others
  • Looks for ways to improve systems, not just repair them
  • Communicates clearly with customers
  • Wants to continue learning and growing professionally

Certification as a Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) is a plus but not required.

Our Hiring Philosophy

Technical skills matter.

Character matters more.

We're looking for someone who asks questions, takes ownership, and genuinely enjoys helping customers.

We believe the best technicians don't just fix what's broken. They improve the performance of every irrigation system they touch. They educate customers, improve efficiency, reduce unnecessary water use, and leave every property better than they found it.

Anyone can replace a sprinkler head. We're looking for people who want to understand why the system wasn't performing in the first place.

If that sounds like the way you like to work, you'll probably fit in well here.

Compensation & Growth

  • $33-$40/hour based on experience
  • Performance bonuses
  • Company vehicle
  • Paid certifications
  • Clear compensation growth as responsibilities increase
  • Clear path into field leadership with opportunities for broader operational leadership as the business scales

Interested?

We're building a company where people enjoy coming to work, customers know they can trust us, and doing the right thing matters.

If you're looking for more than just another technician job and want to help build something you'll be proud of, we'd love to hear your story.
