Qualifications
- Current certification or licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (or equivalent credential) in the state of Virginia, with demonstrated experience providing substance use treatment.
- Strong counseling skills, including motivational interviewing, group facilitation, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed practice.
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, harm-reduction and recovery models, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
- Ability to complete thorough assessments, create individualized treatment and relapse-prevention plans, and maintain clear, compliant clinical documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills, with a commitment to culturally responsive, gender-neutral, and non-discriminatory care.
- Familiarity with electronic health records, basic computer skills, and the ability to manage a part-time caseload effectively.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field preferred.
- Experience in a holistic or integrative treatment setting and comfort working within a collaborative, team-based environment is highly desirable.
