About Conscious Cup
Conscious Cup Coffee Roasters is an independent, family-owned craft coffee company in northern Illinois, roasting consciously crafted, ethically sourced coffee since 2006. We're a small, fast-paced, all-hands-on-deck team that takes real pride in getting great coffee to our customers and our cafes. We are looking for good people to help us grow our business.
The role
We're hiring a Production Roaster to join our Crystal Lake roastery. This is a hands-on production job at the heart of our operation: packaging and order fulfillment, keeping the roastery clean and organized, supporting cuppings, sample roasting, and — after training on our profiles and equipment) production roasting. If you love coffee, work hard, and sweat the details, there's a real path here to grow.
What you'll do
- Package, label, and prep finished coffee for retail, wholesale, and online orders — accurately and on schedule
- Keep the roastery clean and orderly: daily sanitation, equipment wipe-downs, chaff and waste management, and organized green and finished inventory
- Set up, run, and break down cuppings — prep samples, boil and pour, clean and reset the table
- Sample roast for QC and new offerings, logging and tracking each batch
- After training: production roasting — operate and monitor the roaster to hit our profiles, tracking charge temp, rate-of-rise, airflow, development time, and end temperature for consistent quality. Tracking on done on Cropster
- Routine roaster, filling equipment, and grinder upkeep — cleaning, basic maintenance, and flagging issues early
- Pitch in wherever the day calls for it — we're an all-hands-on-deck team, so you'll help around the warehouse, in the kitchen, with training, and across other areas as things come up
What we're looking for
- Roasting experience preferred, but we'll train the right person who brings the work ethic and curiosity
- Organized, hard-working, and determined; you take ownership and follow through
- Coffee-focused and eager to learn the craft from green to cup
- Detail-oriented
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, hitting deadlines without cutting corners
- Reliable and safety-minded, with good food-handling habits
- Able to stand for full shifts and repeatedly lift heavy bags of green coffee
- Familiarity with online ordering systems, order fulfillment, and inventory management
Benefits & perks
- Generous employee discount plus free coffee
- Paid time off
- Flexible scheduling
- A close-knit, mission-driven team and room to grow your role in coffee
- Additional incentives if the position becomes full-time
