Brief Description

As a key member of the Talent and Culture (T&C) Department, this position directly reports to the Director, Talent and Culture. T&C team members function as internal consultants to staff and management in designing policies, programs, people strategies, and benefits that support our mission and vision, while demonstrating and reflecting our core values and focus on equity.

We are seeking an experienced Manager with a strong HR generalist background who has an understanding and experience of the core HR management processes and genuine excitement for helping the Foundation build a comprehensive HR infrastructure encompassing all aspects of employee engagement.

You will leverage your HR expertise and thought leadership in developing workplace practices and policies that support our culture and will work closely with leadership in designing and implementing strategies that enable the organization to reach its greater potential.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Talent and Culture team, working closely with the CPO, Director, and peers to shape the vision, tone, and direction of the T&C team.
  • Model the Foundation’s values and foster a culture of trust, collaboration and accountability across the department and the organization.
  • Nurture an internal culture of curiosity, humility, and reflection.
  • Advise T&C and provide leadership in designing processes, programs, and practices that enable an inclusive workplace, nurture employee engagement, and foster a positive organizational culture.
  • Oversee T&C talent management workstreams, such as goal-setting, performance management, training and development, onboarding, change management, coaching, and employee engagement.
  • Design and manage the Foundation’s learning opportunities and professional development benefits.
  • Create and manage a sustainable and effective onboarding and integration process.
  • In collaboration with internal stakeholders, identify and develop sustainable and accessible learning and developmental experiences.
  • Partner with Communications team members to design and deliver effective written and verbal employee communications.
  • Support successful implementation of an HRIS system, ensuring capability to streamline data, processes and decision making related to goal-setting, performance management, and learning management.
  • Leverage and optimize systems for internal efficiency and compliance, while enhancing stakeholder experience and access.
  • Assess and continually improve the effectiveness of programs to enhance impact and engagement.
  • Build strong and thoughtful relationships with management and staff.
  • Ensure that work environments and workplace practices promote a positive employee relations environment free of discrimination, harassment, or any form of unfair or unethical practice.
  • Solve problems, identify the root cause of issues, and design and implement thoughtful and sustainable solutions that cut across multiple functional areas and departments.
  • Function as a collaborative thought partner, building consensus with staff and leaders and presenting alternative approaches and solutions to business initiatives.
  • Research emerging trends and opportunities in workplace management and employee engagement.

Qualifications

  • 10 years working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, organizational diagnosis, change management, DEIB, performance management, and relevant federal and state employment laws.
  • Passion for enhancing employee engagement and experience in developing and leading culture-building initiatives.
  • Experience in organizational design and restructures in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to solve a wide range of complex, multi-disciplinary problems.
  • Experience in non-profit sector preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and assessment skills required.
  • Proven project management experience successfully planning and managing high-profile projects in a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive environment.
  • Team-oriented attitude and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. High social and emotional intelligence and proven experience delivering results and managing programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, collaboration and working effectively across and in support of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate concepts into actionable items.
  • Must possess consultative style and approach. Ability to listen first and build strong relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Proficient in prioritizing and managing complex tasks, meeting deadlines with an orientation toward execution and resolution.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree in Human Resources or Business preferred.
  • HR certification desired.
  • Knowledge of California employment laws and practices.
  • Experience in HRIS conversions/implementations preferred.
  • Experienced communicator, facilitator, and collaborator.
  • A broad range of HR knowledge and direct experience in organizational design, performance management, business consulting, engagement, and crucial conversations.
  • Demonstrated success in building high-performing teams.
  • Excellent relationship-building, critical thinking, and strategic planning skills.
  • Deep commitment to fostering an inclusive culture within a mission-driven environment.
  • Strong connection to the Foundation’s values of compassion, humility, and integrity.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on-site at least three days each week according to the hybrid schedule policy.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
