Principal Engineer – Land Development
Location: Suffern, NY or North Jersey area
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Engineer to lead and grow our Land Development practice across New York & New Jersey. This leadership role is responsible for managing complex land development projects, mentoring engineering staff, fostering client relationships, and contributing to strategic business growth. The ideal engineer is a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive experience in site development, municipal permitting, and project delivery across public and private sector markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of land development projects from concept through construction.
- Serve as Engineer of Record for a variety of commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use developments.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted technical advisor.
- Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and identifying new market opportunities.
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers, project managers, and technical staff
- Oversee the preparation and review of: Site plans, Grading and drainage plans, Stormwater management systems, Utility design (water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer), Erosion and sediment control plans, Construction documents and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with architects, planners, surveyors, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage permitting and approvals with local, county, and state agencies.
- Provide technical leadership and ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, zoning regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Participate in strategic planning for the continued growth of the Land Development practice.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months.
- 12–20 years of progressive civil engineering experience with a strong focus on land development.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of: Site development design, Stormwater management, Utility infrastructure, Grading and earthwork, Local and state permitting processes.
- Experience with municipal approvals throughout New York and the surrounding region.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication, leadership, and client management skills.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering staff.

Pay: $170,000.00 - $210,000.00 per year
